WHO ARE CUB SCOUTS?

Cub Scout packs serve boys who are in first through fifth grade (or 7 through 11 years of age). Boys, families, leaders, and chartered organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. The ten purposes of Cub Scouting are:

  1. Character Development
  2. Spiritual Growth
  3. Good Citizenship
  4. Sportsmanship
  5. Family Understanding
  6. Respectful Relationships
  7. Personal Achievements
  8. Friendly Service
  9. Fun and Adventure
  10. Preparation for Boy Scouts

YOUR SON, SCOUTING, AND YOU

As a parent, you want your son to grow up to be a self-reliant, dependable and caring individual. Scouting has these same goals in mind for him. Since 1910 we have been weaving lifetime values into fun and educational activities designed to assist parents in strengthening character, good citizenship, and physical and mental fitness in youth. Scouting teaches family values. We know that boys do not join Scouting to get their character built. Boys join because it is fun.

The pack is a group made up of several dens -- Tiger Cub, Cub Scout, and Webelos Scout dens. We have at least one den for each grade level. The pack is led by a Cubmaster during the monthly pack meeting, and dens are led by Den Leaders each week. The Cubmaster leads pack meetings with games, skits, stunts, songs, ceremonies, and presentation of badges which the boys earned that month. Our pack meets once a month on the third Thursday, unless otherwise directed by the calendar.

When a boy joins the pack, he begins with whatever age group is relevant. For example, a new fourth-grade boy that has never been a scout before will still jump in as a Webelos scout. However, regardless of when he joins, each boy must meet the requirements for the Bobcat rank, which teaches the fundamentals of Cub Scouting such as the Cub Scout Oath and Cub Scout Pack Law.

Pack 555 was started in 2005 as part of larger scouting family serving boys aged 6 thru 21. The founding leadership of Pack, Troop, and Crew 555 were and are trained veterans who came from other successful scouting ventures in the Las Vegas valley. The new units were formed to provide a comprehensive and cohesive scouting family, placing the emphasis on the scouting program and all it brings to our young men.

When a Cub Scout reaches the highest rank in Cub Scouting, the Arrow of Light, the Cubmaster, Webelos Patrol Leader, from Pack 555 will officially "crossover" the boy to the Scoutmaster and Scouts of Troop 555, who will provide him with his new epaulets, Scout Handbook, and neckerchief. It is a celebrated night of achievement, one that the boy and his family will not soon forget. The boy now begins an exciting time in his life, participating in bigger and bolder adventures with his new troop.
